Why physical removal ??
Physical removal from the water of pathogens, bacteria & viruses, will also remove any toxins and particles contained within them. This method is considered a superior method to "killing" by "poisoning" of the pathogens with chemicals and allowing the accumulated residues and chemicals (which could potentially be toxic and / or carcinogenic) to remain in the water and / or storage system where they could cause further problems within the drinking water supply chain.
Physically removes:-
Pathogenic cysts (protozoa); which can cause severe gastric pains and diarrohea and include the very common giardia and cryptosporidia cysts.
Viruses; considered very problematical water borne pathogens, and second to the protozoa group.
Disease causing bacteria; which are smaller than protozoa and are the cause of many diseases, such as cholera, typhoid & e-coli, which is one of the most common bacteria (irrespective of country) and causes chronic diarrhoea.
Organic compounds; agricultural pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and solvents which may have found their way into water sources.
Chemicals; removes many intentionally added chemicals, such as chlorine and non intentionally added industrial chemicals.
Foul tastes & odours; carried over from the water source, such as sulphur or other minerals and from the method of storage, such as metal or plastic tanks.
General dirt and sediment; from settling of debris contained within the water and storage facility.
